Kensington ShareCentral – Easy USB Sharing Solution
Kensington’s assortment has expanded to the ShareCentral product line, which allows users to share USB peripherals with two computers at the same time.
The situation when several users need to have access to the same USB devices is quite common. Markettools analysts claim that, for example, in the USA, more than 40% of families have 3-4 computers. In turn, in 70% of such cases, one of the computers plays the role of a server that provides shared access to resources. The most commonly shared resource is a printer (50%), scanner (30%), or external storage (22%).
Devices of the ShareCentral family allow you to solve the problem without organizing a local network and allocating a server. They connect to each of the two PCs using USB cables, and the shared device to ShareCentral. After that, at the push of a button, you can connect the USB device to one PC, then to the second. What’s more, the ShareCentral 2 and ShareCentral 5 models have an Automatic Print Sharing feature that detects which of the two computers is accessing the printer and switches automatically (this feature is available under Windows XP and Windows Vista).
The list of new products looks like this:
ShareCentral 5 (SKU K33901US) – five USB ports, MSRP $ 80;
ShareCentral 2 (SKU K33900US) – two USB ports, $ 60;
ShareCentral 1 (SKU K33903US) – one USB port, $ 40.
The company promises to start shipping products of the Kensington ShareCentral family at the end of the month.
