Guest Guest. All caps is considered shouting. We are NOT Microsoft technical support, and Microsoft does not provide freebie tech support via this newsgroup. We are just volunteers from the peer community of end users helping out each other. If the tech is made to understand that my problem could not be resolved otherwise but might be addressed by the hotfix, they don’t charge me.
If you read the description of whatever is the hotfix’s description for a hotfix that you never bothered to mention here , it probably says: “Note: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem.
The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question. Otherwise, you are making a superfluous request and they’ll charge you for wasting their time on a non-issue. They’ll probably recognize if they are talking to a technically competent user who has gone through all the troubleshooting in attempting to resolve the problem and has narrowed down the possibilities down to a hotfix as opposed to an ignorant user just trying a shotgun approach at spraying all changes at their system to see what might happen to work.
Be ready to explain the problem in detail, explain what you did to try to resolve the problem, and why you think the hotfix will specifically address your unresolved problem. And to further that, usually when you provide the KB Article and Hotfix name and Tech Support doesn’t have to look it up for you, they don’t charge you anything.
