Dongbu HiTek Beats Industry Leaders in 0.18-μm BCDMOS Process
In the production of memory and logic microcircuits, norms of several tens of nanometers have already been mastered, but these products do not exhaust the whole variety of the element base of modern electronic devices.
South Korean company Dongbu HiTek introduced the industry’s first BCDMOS (Bipolar / CMOS / DMOS) process, which uses 0.18 μm (180 nm). Its application will reduce the area of a typical development, designed for BCDMOS production at 0.35 microns, by 40-60%, the company claims. In addition, in many cases, the new process technology will eliminate the need for multiple chips, replacing them with one. The development was presented at the international symposium on semiconductor microcircuits.
The new process technology is intended for the production of microcircuits designed for voltages of 12-60 V, including power control circuits, LED drivers, drive circuits for drives of hard drives, automotive electronics and sound amplifiers.
The appeal of BCDMOS stems from the ability to integrate analog (Bipolar), logic (CMOS) and high voltage (DMOS) circuits in a single chip.
Interestingly, Dongbu HiTek is ahead of such recognized industry leaders as TSMC and UMC in creating the 0.18-micron BCDMOS process.
