Former HP executive accused of trying to dispose of IBM secrets
Former vice president of Hewlett-Packard (HP) Atul Malhotra accused of trying to pass on classified information he received during his time at IBM.
The lawsuit filed in the District Court of San Jose states that in March 2021 Malhotra, then director of sales and development in the division specializing in printer supplies at IBM, received classified documents at his disposal. In May of the same year, Malhotra became vice president of a similar division at HP. Some time later, Malhotra sent emails to two senior vice presidents of HP, to which he attached fragments of classified documents.
The reaction of the HP management was not long in coming: as a result of an internal investigation, Atul Malhotra was fired from the company, and information about his action came to the competent authorities and IBM.
By the way, the aforementioned IBM documents are still a trade secret, so the company went to court with a request not to disclose their content during the consideration of the case.
