TRIL launches BioMOBIUS biomedical research platform
TRIL (Technology Research for Independent Living) has announced the release of the BioMOBIUS research platform for biomedical research, which integrates hardware, sensors, software, services and a graphical environment. The BioMOBIUS platform will help researchers reduce the time spent creating basic technologies and will allow them to focus on real research. Ultimately, with this platform, physicians, clinicians and engineers will be able to develop and deploy technology solutions for biomedical research faster.
A key challenge in medical research is the time it takes to develop technology. In a typical research project, it takes a long time to create the underlying technologies that collect the necessary data. To solve this problem, the BioMOBIUS research platform is intended – it will allow researchers to use the previously obtained results in the development of technologies and, thus, significantly reduce the stage of preparation for research. It is an easy-to-use, extensible, reusable platform with moderate technical requirements. The BioMOBIUS research platform software is based on the EyesWeb graphical environment created at the University of Genoa in order to make the application development process efficient and intuitive.
The BioMOBIUS research platform was developed at TRIL, a pioneering joint venture between Intel and a number of Irish universities between Intel and the Industrial Development Agency of Ireland (IDA). Its goal is research into technologies to help older people maintain independent lifestyles. The platform has been used by TRIL researchers primarily to help clinicians identify and prevent (or mitigate) the various effects of aging, such as falls and memory loss, and to help older adults strengthen their social bonds.
The TRIL Center has opened free access to the BioMOBIUS research platform software for the research community: it can be downloaded from the project website. This site also hosts a number of additional tools to support the platform, such as documentation, tutorials, tutorials, and a discussion forum.
