Nose piercings have become nearly as popular as ear piercings. If you walk down any high street in most cities throughout the world, you will easily be able to spot more than a handful of people who have their nose pierced. If you are planning on getting your nose pierced, you are probably wondering if it is acceptable to wear nose jewellery on the job? Or whether the procedure hurts?
How much does a nose piercing hurt?
The only way to find out if a nose piercing hurts is to get it done yourself. We all have different pain thresholds and what may be painful for one person might not feel like a lot to another. If you want to wear a nice diamond stud or nose ring, you will have to take the plunge and get the piercing done. Most people who have nose piercings say it is not that painful and the pain only lasts for a moment. It is over extremely quickly, and most people say it is like a flu shot.
How long does the pain last?
It all depends on where you get the nose piercing. Some areas of the nose are more tender than others and each have different levels of pain. There are 3 main areas to get your nose pierced and each one is different.
- Nostril Piercing – This area is easy to pierce and the pain is very minimal. The pain usually only lasts for a few seconds.
- Septum Piercing – Septum piercings are similar to nostril piercings; they are easy piercings to receive and they heal quickly.
- High Nostril Piercing – This part of your nose can be a big more uncomfortable and it tends to swell for a little longer.
As you can see, most people would recommend a nostril or septum piercing as they offer the least amount of pain.
What can I do to minimise the pain?
There is not a whole lot you can do to stop the pain; it is a body piercing after all. You could try a numbing gel or ointment to nullify the pain.
Most people who have nose piercings will tell you that they do not hurt that much. When done by a professional, the procedure is quick and easy. Once the piercing has healed, you can then take it out and start putting in other types of nose jewellery. You have lots of options such as nose studs, nose rings, and more.
