Sony Charged with Blu-ray Patent Infringement
Orinda Intellectual Properties USA has filed a lawsuit against Sony, claiming that the latter infringes its Blu-ray rights.
Specifically, we are talking about patent number 5438560, which describes in general terms methods of recording and reproducing information on an optical disc.
Orinda also named subsidiaries Sony Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America as defendants.
Plaintiff is seeking a court hearing and expects an injunction to manufacture, sell and distribute Blu-ray-enabled devices such as PS3 game consoles, computer drives and consumer Blu-ray players. In addition, Orinda expects to receive “fair royalties”.
This is not the first time a Blu-ray lawsuit has been filed against Sony. Target Technology took this action last May. A few months later, the case was dropped.
