Consumer lawsuit against Microsoft over Vista Capable found justified

The US Court of Appeals considered the case of buyers of ready-made computers against Microsoft regarding the classification of a number of the latter as Vista Capable (suitable for Vista).

The judge dismissed the company’s appeal and ruled to continue the proceedings, for which Microsoft will be forced to make additional materials available to investigators, including internal correspondence of employees.

It is possible that in the near future even more plaintiffs will join the class action, who unknowingly have become buyers of systems based on the Intel 915G chipset, which is not able to support all the features of the Vista Aero interface.

At one time, a deliberate understatement of system requirements led to a noticeable increase in demand for computers that were outdated by the time the new OS was released (especially laptops) equipped with a brand new sticker, and, as a result, allowed manufacturers to sell them at an inflated price. Now, it seems that Intel, which lobbied for such a decision, will have to pay for the past not quite honest incomes, mainly Microsoft. However, it cannot be ruled out that the process will be very extended in time. The next court session will take place in a month, after additional materials have been studied.
