Microsoft unveils BlueTrack technology and first mice to use it
Microsoft Hardware has been designing mice for 26 years. The company’s achievements include the release of the world’s first optical mouse in 1999 and the creation of a laser mouse, introduced in 2021. With its new development, as stated in the official press release, the company “raised the tracking of mouse movements to a new level.”. This is a new, exclusive technology called BlueTrack.
A feature of the new technology is the ability to accurately track mouse movements on any surface, from granite countertops in the kitchen to carpets of living rooms. This omnivorousness is provided by a new illumination source and an optical sensor, which are able to form a surface image with high contrast. The beam used in BlueTrack is four times larger than the beam used in today’s mice.
Two mice featuring BlueTrack technology were introduced at the same time. They were named Explorer Mini Mouse (top two pictures) and Explorer Mouse (bottom pictures). The first is designed for mobile computers, the second is more suitable for use with a desktop system. The ergonomic shape of the manipulators complements the freedom of movement provided by the use of a wireless interface using a radio channel (2.4 GHz, communication range up to 10 m). Mice come with miniature transceivers.
Explorer Mouse is equipped with a battery level indicator and a miniature docking station with battery charging function. Explorer Mini Mouse runs on two AA batteries. The new mice will start shipping in November for approximately $ 100 and $ 80 respectively.
