ASUS raises netbook shipping plans and talks about upcoming Eee PCs
ASUS Expects to Ship 50,000 Newly Unveiled Eee PC S101 Netbooks to Consumers in October. The release of this model to the markets of Europe and Japan, scheduled for the current month, will help to additionally increase the supply volumes.
By the end of the year, the share of S101 in the volume of deliveries of ASUS netbooks will be approximately 10%. The company currently ships about 700,000 products under the Eee PC brand. In the first three quarters of the year, we have already managed to deliver 3.4 million. units.
By the end of the year, the company will expand the Eee PC line with products that will occupy an intermediate position between the S101 and 1000 series. The price of new netbooks will be in the range of $ 550-580. A company spokesman assured that there are no plans to release an Eee PC with screens larger than 11 inches in diagonal.
Eee PC models with touch screens will be released in the first quarter of next year. It is not yet known exactly which models will receive touchscreens, but they can be seen at CES 2021.
ASUS’s other netbook plans include a dual-core Atom processor.
Another point of the plan looks no less attractive – in 2021 the company promises to release a model costing about $ 300.
ASUS management believes that the growth in netbook shipments will allow the company to bypass one of its competitors in the global market, the Chinese company Lenovo. In total for the current year ASUS expects to release 11 million. mobile computers, of which 6.2 million. units will be laptops, and the rest will be Eee PC netbooks.
With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) will soon be producing part of the Eee PC. In addition, ASUS is in talks to release Eee PC netbooks with another manufacturer. However, third-party manufacturers will get the release of previously released models. New items, as before, will begin their life on the Pegatron Technology conveyor.
