The release of the Radeon HD 4870 is again postponed
Correspondents of the Japanese resource PC Watch published a report from the AMD press conference, which they had a chance to attend.
The manufacturer confirmed that the Radeon HD 4850 will no longer be delayed and will enter the market on June 25 this year. Knowing AMD’s habit of making important announcements on Mondays, the decision to schedule such an event for Wednesday looks a little strange.
The cards based on the 55nm RV770 PRO core will compete with NVIDIA solutions such as the GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GTS and GeForce 9600 GT, offering 1 TFLOPS performance with a power consumption of only 110 W.
But the faster Radeon HD 4870, as follows from the above slide, will be released only on July 8, two weeks later. AMD positions this GDDR5-equipped product as a competitor to the GeForce 9800 GTX.
As for the flagship dual-processor products from AMD, which could compete with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280, their company plans to release them within 8 weeks from the current date, that is, in August of this year.
