Intel showed Nehalem, clocked at 3.2 GHz

The first information about the new Intel processor architecture appeared more than two years ago. Since then, they have been constantly replenished, and the other day you could even see photos of the Nehalem crystal.

At the moment, it is known that Nehalem will be released in variants with from two to eight cores, which, taking into account synchronous multithreading, makes it possible to execute from four to sixteen threads. The first models targeted at desktop PCs, codenamed Bloomfield, will have four cores.

The quad-core model, enclosed in a package with 1366 contacts, has 731 million. transistors. Each core has access to its own 256KB L2 cache. Another 8 MB of L3 cache is shared by the cores. Onboard memory controller supports 3-channel DDR3-1333 memory. FSB replaced by QuickPath Interconnect.

To confirm that the first samples (revision A1) of the new processor are quite functional, the company showed several systems based on it at IDF 2021.

The top image shows a quad-core processor system (Bloomfield) running an aerodynamic simulation application.

Since the processor cores support SMT, the operating system shows eight processors in the device manager (recall, we are talking about a system with one processor socket). So far, Intel has not announced what frequencies the first serial Bloomfield will have, but presumably the maximum value at the time of debut, which will take place in the fourth quarter of this year, will be 3.6 GHz. The sample shown on the developer forum ran at 3.2 GHz and interacted with DDR3-1333 triple channel memory.

The company has not yet published any estimates of the performance of new processors.
